Spirit of Giving applications available

Applications due July 1

PARKERSBURG — Applications for grants through the PM Company’s Spirit of Giving Fund for non-profit organizations in the Mid-Ohio Valley are available.

The Spirit of Giving fund was created by Pat Minnite Sr. at the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation in 2007 as a source to benefit local charitable efforts and non-profit organizations. It is the focus of the annual company Christmas party at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center.

For the last nine years, PMC has invited tenants, vendors, business associates and friends to forgo the traditional corporate gift exchange and donate to the fund instead. Each December, PMC matches what has been raised and divides the amount among designated charities.

The company has contributed nearly $500,000 so far, and in its 10th year this year hopes to set a record of the most money raised. Last year, $60,000 was raised.

This is the second year the fund has accepted applications from those wishing to be funded. Grants of $5,000 to $9,000 are usually made to five or six groups and were informally chosen by the company.

As the available funds grow, it has become necessary to have a more formal application process.

“We would like to hear from more agencies who are doing good things for those in need in our community. This enables us to invite more participation,” Karmyn Minnite Conley, managing partner at PMC, said.

Applications are available online at thepmcompany.com/spirit-of-giving and are due July 1. Recipients will be announced Sept. 1.

Groups are then invited to participate in the fundraising efforts to establish the match amounts. Final donations will be announced in December at the Spirit of Giving event.

PM Company offers real estate development, management and services, with a focus on excellence, integrity and a moral responsibility to respond to community and social needs, the company said.
