Artsbridge readies Arts Encounter

PARKERSBURG — The fourth annual Arts Encounter, sponsored by Artsbridge, is a special day of arts experiences for middle school students in Washington County in Ohio and Wood County in West Virginia on March 3 and March 10.

The goal of the event is to introduce students to the artistic and cultural offerings in downtown Parkersburg and actively engage them in the arts. Invited students are kept to an attendance of 60 each day to provide the opportunity for more hands-on experiences, organizers said.

Students and their teachers will visit the Actors Guild of Parkersburg for a performance of “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” This is a Guild Builders production currently showing at the Guild featuring updated songs from Disney.

After the live performance, which is a fast-paced take on the classic tale, actors and tech crew will demonstrate the stagecraft and technical aspects of the musical and answer questions.

At the Parkersburg Art Center, students will experience a tour of the facility and the current exhibit and participate in several art stations with local artists Ginny Killian and Jessie Siefert.

Middle schools participating are Belpre, Fort Frye, Frontier, Warren, Wolf Creek, Blennerhassett, Edison, Hamilton, Jackson, Van Devender and Williamstown.

Artsbridge will provide lunch for the students and teachers and supplies needed for the art stations. Students will view the Belpre High School art exhibit displayed in the lobby area of the Artsbridge office.

Funding for Arts Encounter has been provided by Artsbridge through contributions to the United Arts Fund Drive.
