Halloween activities slated throughout Mid-Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG — Halloween activities continue this weekend in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

* In Belmont, Carehaven of Pleasants will hold its annual Haunted Halloween Trail Event at 7 p.m. today. Trick or Treat will also be held inside the facility.

* At the Peoples Bank Theatre in Marietta, a showing of the 1970s cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be 7 p.m. today.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The film is rated R.

Audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters and ready to do the Time Warp. Details about this participatory screening and what to bring (and not to bring) are available on the event listing at peoplesbanktheatre.com.

* In Marietta, ghost tours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at The Castle at 418 Fourth St.

Tickets are $8 per rperson. Pre-registration is preferred by 740-373-4180, walk-ins will have to wait for availability.

The program features a guided lantern tour of The Castle to hear about ghostly apparitions, sounds and strange occurrences that are recorded to have impacted the staff, volunteers, and guests of The Castle in the past.

Tours begin every 15 minutes and last approximately 45 minutes. The limit is 10 per group and the tour is recommended ages 8 and up.

* In Nelsonville, Ohio, Stuart’s Opera House will present an evening of Halloween events from 6-9 p.m. Friday as part of the Final Friday activities.

Admission is free. There will be spooky entertainment for the whole family including costume contests for both adults and kids with cash prizes, a costume parade for the kids, spooky storytelling, Fort Street Cemetery ghost walk with Ken Bowald, magic, cartoons, kids games and activities, bobbing for apples, and more.

* In Mineral Wells, the New Era One Room School Museum will hold its annual Haunted School program Friday and Saturday at the school on the campus of Mineral Wells Elementary School in Mineral Wells. The program will be 6:30-10:30 p.m. each day. Admission is $2 with ages 4 and under admitted free.

The event features a haunted school and outbuildings with 30 animated characters, refreshments and gifts for sale, ghost stories around a campfire, bubble sand music. It was originally scheduled for last weekend, but has been extended to this weekend due to poor weather, organizers said.

* The Parkersburg South Key Club will present “The Dungeon: 2016 Haunted House” from 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the auxiliary gym at the back of Parkersburg South High School. Admission is $5 for unlimited entries for the night. Proceeds go to Children’s Home Society and the Key Club.

* In Mineral Wells, the Halloween Fun Night continues from 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday on the West Virginia Interstate Fairgrounds on Butcher Bend Road.

Admission is $3 with children 5 and under $2. There will be games, food, flea market vendors, a costume contest, haunted barn, pumpkin carving contest and more.

* In Parkersburg, Lauckport-Parkview Charge United Methodist Church is hosting a community event from 3-5 p.m. Saturday with Halloween games and prizes in celebration of All Saints Day at Parkview UMC, 2210 Fairview Ave., Parkersburg.

There are games for three different categories: pre-school, grade school, and high/middle school. For more information call at 304-485-6164.

* A “Light the Night” Trick or Treat evening will be Saturday at Gihon Tabernacle Parsonage at 2407 Division St. Ext. in south Parkersburg.

There will be a free hot dog dinner from 5-6 p.m. with music by Emily Emrick Ministries, games and prizes. From 6-7:30 p.m., there will be trick or treats, coffee and cocoa.

* In Marietta, the River Cities Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2016-2017 season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a  Halloween Concert at Peoples Bank Theatre, 222 Putnam St. in downtown Marietta.

Tickets are $15, $20 and $25 and may be purchased online at www.peoplesbanktheatre.com, by phone at 740-371-5152 or at the ticket office.

The program of holiday-themed music will include The Noon Witch, Op. 108, by Antonin Dvorak, the Danse Macabre, by Camille Saint-Saens, Symphony No. 8 (Unfinished) by Franz Schubert, and Violin Concerto No. 1 by Max Bruch. The RCSO will also feature the talents of Christina Bouey as violin soloist.

* In Belpre, a Trunk or Treat will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Rockland United Methodist Church, 2310 Washington Blvd., in Belpre. The event will feature a Halloween party, truck or treat and a parade, with prizes for best costumes in many categories from pre-school to 12th grade. It will be held at the LOFT behind Belpre Area Ministries.

* In another movie event at Peoples Bank Theatre in Marietta, there will be a Sunday matinee showing at 3 p.m. Oct. 30 of the Disney and Tim Burton movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children ages 3-11 years. The film is rated PG.

* In south Parkersburg, the South Parkersburg Library will hold a variety of Halloween activities on Oct. 31 at the library at 1807 Blizzard Drive in south Parkersburg.

The activities include: 11:30 a.m., showing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”; 3:30-4 p.m., Children will tour a fire truck; 4 p.m., showing of “Goosebumps,” Rated PG; 5:45 p.m., Costume Contest for all ages; and 6:30 p.m., Special Guest Suzanna Holstein (Granny Sue) telling family friendly ghost stories

Children up to age 12 can write a scary story to be published in the library’s scary stories book. The deadline is Nov. 4. There will also be crafts for all ages along with “trick or read” for up to age 12 all day.
