Young wins honors at 4-H Day

PARKERSBURG – Brie-Ann Young of the Fairview 4-H Club represented Wood County at state 4-H Day at WVU Jackson’s Mill on May 21. Young won a Gold Ribbon for her outstanding PowerPoint Public Speaking presentation.

The annual competition allows youths to participate in educational activities and engage in friendly competitions that develop their subject matter knowledge, leadership skills and life skills.

After a variety of competitive events, including visual presentations, public speaking and digital presentations, one 4-H’er from Wood County was granted a gold ribbon award for her communication skills.

“We are so proud of our Brie-Ann Young for not only being committed to learning fully about a new subject matter, but also for having the confidence that it takes to present to judges at a state competition,” said WVU Extension Service Wood County Agent Jodi Smith. “The event provides another example of how our youths are stepping out of their comfort zones and bettering themselves through West Virginia 4-H opportunities.”

Participating youths and family members were also able to take part in a variety of fun, educational activities, including a Lego robotics competition, Centennial of Camping celebration, disc golf, and a special Council Circle.
