Schamp gets Hero of Hope award
PARKERSBURG – A treatment team member at the Wood County Juvenile Drug Court has been named the 2016 recipient of the Hero of Hope award.
Named was Linda Schamp, who has served the treatment team program for several years, attends weekly treatment team meetings, mentors adolescents in the program by volunteering at community events and social events with the Juvenile Drug Court.
“We are so appreciative of Linda’s service to our Juvenile Drug Court,” Judge Darren Tallman said. “We are heavily dependent on our volunteers to assist us with our treatment team and our community service activities. Linda has been a faithful active participant for over four years.”
The award is presented each year.
May was National Drug Court Month. Juvenile Drug Courts help youth address and overcome substance abuse and delinquent behaviors.
Comprehensive interventions for juvenile substance abuse are important because early substance abuse is a risk factor for justice system involvement and lifelong addiction issues, officials said.
Courts are multidisciplinary collaborations of judges and probation officers, treatment providers and ancillary services to address the challenges before juveniles and families.
The Wood County Juvenile Drug Court serves Wood, Wirt and Pleasants counties. Since 2010, Tallman has presided over the court.
