Help available at Vietnam display

PARKERSBURG – Support services will open at 9 a.m. today at the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall that is on display until Monday at City Park.

The support tents where visitors can receive aid in locating a name on the wall will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until Monday, organizer Greg Smith said. The wall will be dismantled on Tuesday morning and taken to Georgia for the next exhibition in September.

Opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. today will feature a special flag tribute, local businessman Mark Mondo flying a helicopter bearing the U.S. flag over City Park when the national anthem will be performed, Smith said. The Marine Corps League will present the colors.

The United States Air Force Honor Guard and Drill Team will perform during today’s ceremony, Smith said.

An ecumenical service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the wall. Chaplains from the region will officiate and music will be part of the program, Smith said.
