Concert raises $3,000 for Wood habitat

PARKERSBURG – A total of $3,000 was raised for Wood County Habitat for Humanity at the 18th annual Gospel Music Reunion Concert June 27 at South Parkersburg Baptist Church.

Joining the GMR Choir in presenting an evening of Southern Gospel music were The Anderson Trio, DaySpring, The Mission Trio, The New Life Singers, The New Life Quartet, One Way, The Proclaimers, Redeemed, Spirit Led, Victory River and The Williams Family.

The love offering received went to benefit Habitat for Humanity in the Mid-Ohio Valley. A total of $3,000 was raised and presented to Alvin Phillips, director of Habitat For Humanity, by Chris Truman, board member for Gospel Music Reunion, at the Wood County Rotary Club breakfast at the Parkersburg Country Club on July 10.

The GMR Choir presents an annual June concert as a benefit for another 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

“We always look forward to the concert as a means of providing assistance to help others in the area while giving us the opportunity to present a wonderful evening of encouraging Gospel music,” Truman said.

“We want to thank everyone who came and supported GMR and gave to help support Habitat. They are a wonderful organization that does so much to help people with housing in our area,” he said.

The choir will begin working on Christmas music in October for a concert in early December. The choir will do its 19th annual Reunion concert with several area groups in June 2015.

The choir has about 50 members and will be looking to grow and add members when rehearsals begin again in October for Christmas and in April for next June’s concert, Truman said.
