Arbor Day events planned

PARKERSBURG – The Lubeck Garden Club will plant a tree at 2:15 p.m. Friday at Lubeck School in observance of National Arbor Day.

The city of Parkersburg also will celebrate Arbor Day at 10 a.m. Friday at the Point Park Marketplace.

At Lubeck, students will participate in the planting of a redbud, garden club spokesman Dina Braniff said.

“What a joy to be able to plant a tree and what an increased joy to pass along the importance to our youth,” she said.

The 17th annual celebration in Parkersburg will include the results of the annual Big Tree Contest sponsored by the Parkersburg Tree Commission.

The Point Park Marketplace is at 113 Ann St. by the floodwall.

Among speakers will be Andy Sheetz with the West Virginia Division of Forestry. The celebration will include a performance from the Parkersburg South High School Band and light refreshments and the planting of flowers.
