Stout Memorial holding new Sunday service
PARKERSBURG – Stout Memorial United Methodist Church has started a new modern worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sundays.
The Gathering will be casual in nature while maintaining the Sunday morning time associated with attending church at 3329 Broad St., Parkersburg, Chrissy Ruehl, associated pastor, said. Stout hopes this out-of-the box experience will speak to the unchurched and the under-churched as in those that have been jaded in some way by the church, she said.
“This modern worship experience seeks to meld blue jeans and coffee with unique multi-sensory worship that speaks to a wide audience,” she said.
The services started on March 9 in the Family Life Center.
Local musicians will lend their talents to musically lead worship for the first couple of months. Ruehl started the month-long series focusing on the word “give” and it loaded connotations through four different biblical stories:
* Matthew 4:1-11 “All these I will give you if you fall down and worship me.”-the Devil
* John 3:1-17 “I gave my only begotten Son so that you might not perish…”-God
* John 4:5-42 “Give me a drink.” -the Woman at the Well
* John 9:1-49 “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”-the Pharisees
“The Gathering’s visioning team, all members of Stout Memorial, wants this worship experience to look different from other contemporary services by trying to marry old and new concepts of worship,” she said.
The worship is family friendly, Ruehl said. Child care and Sunday School options are available for children during worship.
The Gathering also is looking for musicians to assist in leading worship, she said.
