Formal dress sale proceeds to benefit The Arc

PARKERSBURG – A sale of new formal dresses will be held on Sunday to benefit The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The dresses, donated to The Arc, will be $25 each and will be sold from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Noah’s Arc Thrift Shop, 1915 Dudley Ave., where will 100 dresses of different sizes and styles will be available.

“This is the first time we have done something like this, but, hopefully, not our last,” said Christina Smith, executive director of The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

“We want everyone to come in and try on dresses and have a good time,” she said.

The dresses were donated to the store by a local formal dress shop that wanted the thift shop to sell the garments and allow the proceeds to aid The Arc,which owns and operates both Noah’s Arc Thrift Shops on Dudley Avenue and in south Parkersburg.

“We were very fortunate to have received these dresses as a donation and all of the proceeds from the sale, like all proceeds from the thrift shops, will go to help The Arc,” Smith said.

The dresses, which are new and still have the original price tags attached, are being sold for $25 each. The majority are valued at as much as $400.

Of those available, the dresses are not only designed for proms, but also weddings, said Smith.

“There are some great prom dresses, but we also have dresses for bridesmaids and even mothers of the brides,” she said. “We have a little bit of everything, no matter what girls and ladies are looking for.”

The dresses have been available for preview since Feb. 21 and continue to be available for viewing until the event.

“This event will give the youth in the area the opportunity to have a beautiful prom gown within their budget,” Smith said.

Smith said she does not know how much money The Arc can expect to raise from the event.

“All I know is 100 percent of the sale will go to The Arc and that is a great thing,” she continued.

The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley is a non-profit agency that serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
