Dining with Diabetes classes slated

PARKERSBURG – The West Virginia University Wood County Extension office will offer Dining with Diabetes classes beginning March 27.

The classes will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1710 23rd St., Parkersburg.

Additional classes will be offered April 3, 10 and 17.

Dining with Diabetes is a once-a-week class that runs for four consecutive weeks with a three-month follow-up class.

The class is open to those with diabetes and their family members. The classes are free, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Participants must attend all class sessions.

“You will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and tasty. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning and exercise and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests. Recipes and handouts will be given to each participant,” said Gwen Crum, families and health agent for the extension’s office.

Dining with Diabetes is offered statewide, sponsored by the extension service.

Registration for the program can be obtained by calling the Wood County Extension office at 304-424-1960.
