United Way to oversee Christmas efforts

PARKERSBURG – The United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley will again serve as a clearinghouse for churches, organizations and individuals serving low-income families for Christmas assistance.

“For the second year, we’re making an effort to reduce or eliminate duplication of service,” Joyce Mather, executive director, said. “Through partnerships with local providers, our goal is to oversee a coordinated effort for an equitable distribution of food and gifts to families in need. We want to provide a valuable service to generous donors, whether individuals or businesses, seeking to help the less fortunate.”

The United Way Alliance will track families in Wood County by name, age and also the last four digits of their Social Security number. To date, the United Way will work with the Salvation Army, Community Resources, Old Man Rivers, Toys for Tots, Toys for Needy and numerous area churches.
