Nedeff pens book on Bill Cullen

VIENNA – Adam Nedeff was raised in Vienna, but moved to California to pursue a career involving his passion for game shows.

Nedeff’s idol was legendary game show host Bill Cullen and he wrote a book about the man who was a familiar face on daytime TV for three decades.

Nedeff will be honored 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Vienna Public Library where a reception will be held and he will sign his book, “Quizmaster: The Life and Times and Fun and Games of Bill Cullen.”

He will bring hundreds of pictures of his idol and the inspiration for writing a novel on Cullen’s life, including photos of Cullen in the television shows.

“Today, not a lot of people remember who he was,” Nedeff said.

“Anybody who is a younger person and thinks they are the only one who likes game shows, come see who other people are interested in.”

Cullen was an American radio and television personality whose career lasted more than 30 years.

He was the emcee of numerous popular game shows, including “Password,” “I’ve Got a Secret,” “The Joker’s Wild” and “The Price is Right.”

Nedeff hopes young people will be inspired by their passions and surround themselves with those who have the same dreams and aspirations.

“I’m looking to get a chance to spread the word about this guy,” Nedeff said of Cullen.

In all, Cullen, a native of Pittsburgh, was the host of 23 game shows, more than anyone in television history.

Jill Chidester, the adult program coordinator for the library, said the library likes to see local people who have made accomplishments return to the area.

“We like to focus on local authors,” Chidester said. “We’re happy to have him here.”
