Meeting slated to benefit stadiums

PARKERSBURG – A local business involved with running has organized a track meet to benefit the stadiums at Parkersburg High School and Parkersburg South High School.

The Glory Days Track and Field Meet will involve runners 30 years old and older.

“We wanted to do something a little different,” said Cassy Uhl, an organizer and owner of Running Unlimited LLC.

The track meet will be held starting 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Erickson All Sports Facility. Registration for the meet will be held up until start time, so un-registered runners should arrive at the field prior to 9 a.m., Uhl said.

Events slated are the 100-, 200- and 400-yard dashes, 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, the high jump, the shot put, the discus, the long jump and the 4-by-100, 4-by-200 and 4-400 relays.

“Everything except the pole vault and hurdles,” Uhl said. “I didn’t want anyone getting hurt.”

Cost is $15 for three events and a T-Shirt. Cost is $5 for one event and no T-shirt, she said.

All proceeds will go to the renovations and construction of Stadium Field at Parkersburg High and Erickson Field at Parkersburg South, Uhl said.

Stadium Field is in the process of a major emergency repair and renovation project. The season opener for Parkersburg High against Warren High School will be played Saturday in Marietta because Stadium Field is not ready.
