Local youths donate gifts

VIENNA – Landon Edgar and Janie Beth Uhl wanted to help others on their birthday.

Instead of accepting gifts at their combined birthday party Monday night at Jackson Park swimming pool in Vienna, the two friends asked party-goers to bring items for the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

They collected about 50 items for the Humane Society of Parkersburg animal shelter, including dog and cat food, supplies, two gas cards and cash donations of $105.

“We had a nice variety of items. We were surprised,” said Landon’s mother, Lisa Edgar.

On Aug. 16, Landon will be 11 years old and Janie Beth will be 12 years old. Both are sixth-graders at Williamstown Elementary School.

Janie Beth mentioned the idea to Landon about collecting items for the animal shelter instead of receiving birthday presents. Landon thought this was a good idea.

Landon and Janie Beth hope others will follow their example and respond to the needs of animals at the local shelter.

The items were delivered Wednesday to the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

Both children had their own cupcakes at the combined birthday party on Monday, Lisa Edgar said.

Landon is the son of Harold and Lisa Edgar. Janie Beth is the daughter of Michael Uhl and Tana and JD Stanley.
