Sisson artwork put on exhibit

PRINCETON, W.Va. – Debbie Kalt Sisson, a graduate of Parkersburg South High School and a Ripley High School teacher, has a solo art exhibit now through July 19 in the Chuck Mathena Center, 2 Stafford Commons, Princeton, W.Va.

“The exhibit has a strong West Virginia theme for the 150th birthday of our state. Subjects include places, flora, and insects of West Virginia. It is mostly acrylic and watercolor though it also includes prismacolor and pen and ink,” Sisson said. There are 45 pieces total in the show.

Sisson is a 1974 graduate of PSHS. After graduating from PSHS and Marshall University, Sisson began a teaching career in 1978, teaching at Spencer Junior High, South Point Junior High, Ripley Middle, and currently at Ripley High School.

Sisson is a member of the Allied Artists, on the Artists Register at the Division of Culture and History and a Juried member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society. She has exhibited previously at the Black Walnut Festival, Frankenberger Gallery along with Allied Artists at the University of Charleston Tamarack, Erma Byrd Gallery at the University of Charleston and she was asked to donate a piece of her work to the gallery’s permanent collection to represent Jackson County. She also had showings at the Parkersburg Art Center in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and had an exhibited at WesBanco in Parkersburg in July 2009 and has received a number of awards for her work in watercolor, oil and acrylic.

Sisson is married – her husband Steve is a self-employed draftsman, formerly of St. Albans. She is the mother of two children, Jay, a social studies teacher at Point Pleasant High School along with his wife Elizabeth, a Spanish teacher at Huntington Middle and Huntington High schools, and daughter Stephanie is a student at Marshall University.
