Inter-faith Good Friday walk planned

PARKERSBURG – The annual inter-faith Good Friday walk is again being sponsored this year by Parkersburg’s downtown churches and those of all faiths are invited to participate.

The walk begins at noon March 29 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 532 Market St., led by Salvation Army Church members.

The walk will leave St. Francis Xavier after the first two stations are prayed. Participants follow a large cross to each participating church. The cross is carried by volunteers as the pilgrims follow behind it. Seven churches lead prayer for the event, two stations prayed at each location.

Other churches participating are First Baptist Church, Emmanuel Fellowship, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Logan Memorial United Methodist Church, Trinity Episcopal Church. The service concludes with The Salvation Army leading prayer on the Parkersburg City Building plaza.

The Stations of the Cross walk provides an opportunity for all faiths of the community to pray together and continues a long-standing tradition.

The Stations of the Cross depict fourteen scenes from Jesus’ walk and crucifixion on Calvary. Praying the Stations of the Cross includes scripture readings, prayers, and meditations on each particular station. The Stations are prayed throughout the year. They are prayed, in particular, during the season of Lent and on Good Friday which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus.
