Good Friday Walk at noon today
PARKERSBURG – The annual inter-faith Good Friday Stations of the Cross Walk with participating downtown churches will start at noon today at St. Francis Xavier Church, 532 Market St.
The Stations of the Cross depict 14 scenes from Jesus’ walk and crucifixion on Calvary. The Stations of the Cross includes scripture readings, prayers and meditations at each station.
Stations are prayed throughout the year, but in particular during Lent and on Good Friday, which marks the death of Jesus.
The walk will leave St. Francis Xavier after the first two stations are prayed. Participants follow a large rough timber cross to each participating church, carried by volunteers as the pilgrims follow behind.
Seven churches will lead prayer for the event, two stations prayed at each location.
Members of the Salvation Army Church will lead the walk as others follow behind. Churches in the walk are St. Francis, First Baptist Church, Emmanuel Fellowship, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Logan Memorial United Methodist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church.
The service will conclude with prayer on the plaza of the Parkersburg Municipal Building.
