Flat Stanley center of Guild Builders contest

PARKERSBURG – Guild Builders, an educational program for kids at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg, is holding a decorating competition for its upcoming show, “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.”

The contest for children 12 and under involves decorating Flat Stanley in any creative way the child desires, said Barbara Ream, Guild Builders program director.

“Whatever they want to do,” Ream said.

Flat Stanley is a character in children’s literature who was conceived in 1964 by Jeff Brown. A picture falls on top of Stanley Lambchop while he slept and flattens him.

Guild Builders is a free theater program for children in the fourth-through-ninth grades. Kids meet Saturdays from October to March at the Actors Guild playhouse at Eighth and Market streets where they learn about acting and production.

Contest entries that include the Flat Stanley image to be decorated can be downloaded from the Guild Builders website at www.actors-guild.com/guild-builders.html where they can be downloaded and printed. Ream recommends the forms be printed on card stock.

Also, life-size Flat Stanleys will be at various businesses in the region where entry forms printed on card stock also will be available, Ream said.
