Star Plastics marks lost-time safety goal

RAVENSWOOD — On Nov. 29, Star Plastics marked five years with no lost-time incidents, an accomplishment company officials say underscores its emphasis on safety.

Now their goal is to break the record of seven years without such an incident, set in the late 1990s.

“We’ve been working to get back to that record, and beyond,” Mike Moran, Star Plastics’ Ravenswood plant manager, said in a news release.

On Dec. 15, the company hit another milestone — a full year without any “OSHA-recordable” incidents, meaning any situation that required medical treatment beyond first aid.

“It starts with good training, and correcting unsafe behaviors as they happen – mainly coworkers helping coworkers,” Moran said. “We do a lot of self-policing.”
