MARIETTA — Marietta has a new option in the booming market for vitamins and nutrition supplements.

Marshall Kremer held a grand opening for his new venture, the Supplement Source, last week in his shop at 309B Putnam St.

His competitive edge in a field where products are sold every place from pharmacies to supermarkets is personal experience and knowledge about what he sells, he said.

“I’ve been exercising for many years and tried many supplements,” the 38-year-old Marietta native said. “I’ve always been interested in supplements and I’ve weeded through them to see what works and what doesn’t, and I’ve tried most of what I sell.”

The store opened about three weeks ago. Kremer said his target market is anyone who goes to a gym or exercises, college students, “anyone interested in quality vitamins and supplements,” he said.

He buys directly from producers and sells “only things I’ve used and know to be effective,” he said.

Matt Herridge, the owner of Qdoba Mexican restaurant, is already a customer and said his nutrition-conscious restaurant patrons are probably the same people Kremer is seeking as customers.

Kremer’s decision to start a business was rooted in wanting to stay in his hometown. He was making dentures for Aspen Dental in Parkersburg and the company wanted him to open his own office out of town, he said. To keep his family in Marietta, he made the decision to strike out on his own.

For now, he’ll be the only staff at the store, which is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
