PARKERSBURG — A mid-morning rain beat down on Jill Parsons’ ninth floor office in the United Building as the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley president/CEO discussed the Nov. 14 chamber dinner and awards banquet at the Parkersburg Art Center.

“We’ve moved it ahead a bit from last year,” she said. “It was in December but we moved it to November as we did not want to compete with family time and holiday shopping. But this is usually the event where we get most of our chamber members together.”

Parsons said tickets still remain for the event, which starts with a social hour from 5-6 p.m. on the first floor of the art center before moving to the top floor for the dinner and awards. Tickets are $60 each or a business can purchase a table at a reduced rate. She said Valley Catering will be providing the meal.

“The chairperson for the event is Kim Legg, the human resources director at Chemours,” Parsons said. “She will announce each award.”

There are 10 awards in seven business categories and three individual awards, according to Parsons.

“We’re going to be recaping the year past and recognizing three outgoing board members,” Parsons said. “Those would be Dave McClure, Christina Smith and Ken Watts.”

Parsons said there are 390 members in the chamber. “That number is up over last year,” she stated and smiled in the process. “We’ve added 53 members since the start of the year. That’s 53 individual businesses. That’s a pretty good year and we still have about two months left.”
