IEI sends information to West Virginia DEP

CHARLESTON — Officials say IEI Plastics has responded to a West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection order for an inventory of items in its warehouse which caught fire Oct. 21.

The DEP sent a compliance order Thursday to Intercontinental Export-Import Plastics demanding an inventory of the warehouse. Officials said information provided after the fire first began was out of date and believed to be inaccurate.

Lawrence Messina, director of communications for the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, today said information has been submitted and is being reviewed.

“They received information this afternoon, and the DEP is in the process of determining if it fits the information that was required,” he said.

Messina said officials will meet with the Wood County Commission at 9:30 a.m. Monday to give updates on the fire and IEI’s response to the compliance order.
