Cincinnati firm buys NOE Office Equipment to extend reach
PARKERSBURG — A Cincinnati company has acquired a Parkersburg office supply and technology firm in business for nearly 70 years.
Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises, a leading office technology solutions company, has acquired NOE Office Equipment at 610 Green St. The acquisition of NOE Office Equipment, a Toshiba and Lexmark dealer with a full line of office equipment and services, will enable Donnellon McCarthy to advance its growth strategy and significantly elevate the level of service and selection for NOE Office Equipment’s customers in the Parkersburg area, the company said.
“Oh, we’re going to grow,” Lisa McCray, NOE general manager, said.
McCray is the daughter of Fred Linsell, who purchased NOE Office Equipment in 1982. The company moved from Seventh Street to its existing location on Green Street in 1993.
The company employees 10 people and the name will remain NOE Office Equipment, she said.
“We are extremely excited to be partners with Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises and look forward to offering our customers even more office technology and an increased level of customer service,” McCray said.
Donnellon McCarthy, in business since 1957, has locations in Ohio including in Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus. The company’s services and products include office equipment, document automation and technology solutions.
In June, the company received a 2017 Top Workplaces Award by the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee survey administered by Workplace Dynamics, a research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement.
“The acquisition of NOE Office Equipment complements our overall goal to grow as an organization and expand into other strategic markets. This acquisition is exciting for DME and NOE Office Equipment, and even more so for our combined customers as it further enhances our capabilities,” Jim George, President of Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises, said. “We are relentlessly committed to providing best-in-class service and support and look forward to serving our new customers.”
Construction of the building where NOE Office Equipment started in 1913 by the C.F. Hannaman Construction Co. and was completed in 1915. It housed the Martin-Nally wholesale grocery company.
The building was purchased in 1917 by Peter Devlin and the name was changed to Citizen Transfer and Storage in 1924. Peoples Cartage took over in 1971 and remained there until 1978 and Universal Supply leased a portion of the building from 1925 to 1968.
DeFranco’s Spaghetti Warehouse renovated the building in 1980. Linsell purchased the building in 1993 for the new location of NOE Office Equipment.
Earl Noe started the company in 1948 originally at 212-214 Seventh St. Upon Noe’s passing, his brother-in-law, Bob Wilson, took over for several years before selling to Johanna Burke, who sold to Affiliated Supply Inc.
Affiliated Supply was formed by Linsell and two other Xerox employees in 1982 and began doing business as NOE Office Equipment in 1983. NOE Office Equipment purchased Athens Business Machines in 2012.
The merger of Donnellon McCarthy and NOE Office Equipment includes the sale of the building, owned by Linsell and his wife, Brenda, a Parkersburg native, to Donnellon McCarthy, Linsell said. The Linsells now live in Pittsburgh.
“It was a good experience being in Parkersburg,” said Linsell, who is from the Cleveland area.
“It was a good area to raise a family,” he said. “We liked it there.”
