Construction trends focus of Great American Home Show
For the third year the show is being held this weekend at the National Guard Armory on Blizzard Drive in south Parkersburg. The three-day event continues today from noon-4 p.m. with $3 admission for adults.
Trish McKay, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of the Mid-Ohio Valley and show organizer, said this year’s show had healthy attendance Friday night and Saturday.
“We’ve had people through the door right from the opening and they just keep coming,” she said. “They come in droves and sometimes it just a few at time and sometimes a whole crowd comes through.”
McKay said people coming through the gate were looking for a lot of different things this weekend.
“They are looking at projects they want to do and they are trying to set up appointments to get estimates and ideas,” she said. “That’s the feedback I get from the exhibitors; there are a lot of people out there who have projects they want to get started.”
With 50 vendors, McKay said they filled all available slots with products ranging from building contractors, heating and air conditioning specialists, interior design, roofers, drafters, bathroom installers, mortgage companies and more.
Maria Rinaldi, of Parkersburg, said she was making her first visit to the home show.
“I was looking for a new single entry door for my home and I was looking for some aluminum fencing and stairs,” she said,. “I am also looking at gutters and I’m quite pleased that there is more than one vendor for what I’m looking at. Glad to see there is some competition here.
“It was well worth three bucks.”
Carrie Cronin and Craig Burwell were at the show Saturday taking a look at many different things for the house they plan to build.
“We’re looking for a builder and things to go in the house,” Burwell said.
Roscoe Norris, of Belpre, just came to the show to see what is new.
“I just wanted to see what they have going to put in houses today,” the former housing contractor said.
