Patterson named MC veep

MARIETTA – A 2002 graduate of Marietta College has been named vice president for enrollment management at the school.

Ron Patterson joined the college on Friday and will be responsible for identifying, attracting, yielding and ensuring the success of undergraduate students. He will have direct oversight of the offices of Admission and Student Financial Services.

Patterson, selected after a national search, was an assistant basketball coach at Marietta College. The announcement was made by President Joseph W. Bruno.

“I would like to thank President Bruno, the president’s cabinet, search committee and the Marietta College campus community for providing my family and me this opportunity. I look forward to joining a progressive family-oriented community committed to students, faculty, staff, alumni and the city of Marietta. We are very grateful for this opportunity,” Patterson said. “I look forward to joining President Bruno’s staff and sharing the unique contemporary liberal arts experience Marietta College has to offer prospective students and their families.”

Patterson also worked at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Christian Brothers University, both in Memphis.

He earned his bachelor’s of science in 1998 in human services from Martin Methodist College and in 2012 earned an education specialist degree from Arkansas State University. He earned his master’s of arts in education in 2002 at MC.

Patterson said he and his wife, Jenny, are looking forward to returning to Marietta with their children, Olivia, 9, and Braylon, 4.

“In the past, I recruited student-athletes to Marietta College. This experience allowed me to embrace the city and college. I am committed to sharing the exclusive opportunities only Marietta College has to offer each person,” Patterson said. “Now, I will have the opportunity to recruit prospective students and use my experience of managing a dedicated team of staff and students to optimize our enrollment goals.”

Most recently, Patterson was director of admissions and enrollment services at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway where he coordinated the recruitment and admissions for undergraduate students.

He also supervised 21 full-time employees, 10 student workers and more than 60 student ambassadors. He was promoted to director of admissions a year ago.

“We are excited that Ron will be joining us and he is excited to reinvigorate Marietta’s approach to undergraduate enrollment,” Bruno said. “Ron brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of enrollment management, and I am excited to see how he will execute a comprehensive recruitment plan that will help us stabilize our enrollment.”
