Real estate agents to place flags for Fourth of July

PARKERSBURG – More than 20 years ago, a tradition was started by Terry Connolly, who was then the broker/owner of Prudential Preferred Homes real estate office.

Each year, his agents placed American flags in yards throughout the community for the Fourth of July.

Connolly is a combat veteran. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, attaining the rank of captain. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley and is a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Connolly strongly believes in showing our support for members of the military.

When the local Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate office was formed, the office decided to continue this tradition to honor Connolly and more than 80 family members of associates who have served or are serving in the military.

The Berkshire Hathaway real estate agents will be placing the flags on Wednesday or Thursday.

Home Depot employees have volunteered to help the agents place the flags. Kathy Parsons, store manager of Home Depot, said the company’s core value is giving back to the community it serves and she sees this as a worthwhile project, according to a press release.

The group is also making a donation to the veterans museum in Parkersburg for each flag placed.

Some of the real estate agents will also be distributing flags at the Berkshire Hathaway real estate kiosk in Grand Central Mall.

To avoid disrespect to the flags, the real estate agents will be picking up those flags that are still in the local yards on July 7, the press release states.
