Tamarack readies for holiday season

BECKLEY – Display manager Jenifer Fox and her assistant, artist Robert Moore, have spun the Christmas spirit throughout Tamarack: The Best of West Virginia.

There are displays of handmade work featuring blue hues. Trees and festive garland decorate the interior with the conference center a focal point for holiday gatherings.

Eye-catching displays lead guests through the various departments making it easy to select handmade gifts for everyone on this year’s list, Tamarack officials said.

Studio artisans work like elves in glass, fine art, wood and music. Every weekend more artisans join their ranks to share specially made products reflecting Mountain State heritage as well as today’s most popular trends. A holiday tradition in the area, Tamarack also hosts “A Christmas Carol” on Friday and Saturday, Dec.13 and 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 in advance and $10 at the door. Due to limited seating, guests are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.

Tamarack comes alive with the sounds of the holiday season every Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Gov. Hulett C. Smith Theater for free concerts. Special music by local school groups and others add to the festive atmosphere.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. Tamarack hosts two popular West Virginia bands, The Wild Rumpus and The Boatmen, for “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Each band will perform a set, then collaborate on holiday favorites.

Tickets are $10 and guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or make a donation to Mac’s Toy Fund. Anyone who donates will be included in a door prize drawing.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.’s new book, “From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star,” will be available on Dec. 19 with Murphy signing books on Dec. 19 from 1-3 p.m.

Tickets for his Dec. 27 concert at Tamarack are available through ticketriver.com.

Open daily from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in December, Tamarack varies its schedule later in the month and closes at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and is closed Christmas Day.

Winter hours, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. begin on Friday, Jan. 3.
