Leavitt advisers to help families plan funerals

PARKERSBURG – To ensure that funeral arrangements are made with care, dignity and respect, Leavitt Funeral Services has hired Stephanie Sams and Eric Koski as pre-arrangement advisers.

“What we do takes a high degree of professionalism, care and attention to detail,” said Jon Leavitt, co-owner/funeral director at Leavitt Funeral Services. “It’s about character and the way a person presents him or herself. At times, it can take a long time to find that right fit.”

“I expect Eric and Stephanie will be very successful here because of their positive attitudes and strong desire to be helpful and serve others. They understand Leavitts’ mission and values of serving people first, before business,” Leavitt said.

Sams, who majored in business marketing and management at WVU-P, previously served as sales manager at Results Radio for eight years. Prior to that, she did retail sales for pharmaceutical company Scherling Plough. She also owns Lillie’s Childcare and Learning Center, which has two Parkersburg locations.

A former member of the River City Runners, Sams has helped with area fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network for the past seven years.

Koski said he is no stranger to the loss of loved ones, having lost both parents, a very dear aunt, and a friend during high school. His career has been focused on healthcare administration and sales.

“I’ve always served individuals and worked with families in need,” said Koski. “Many area family members will recognize me because I’ve worked with them in past jobs.”

Educated at Ohio University, where he played varsity sports, Koski still plays for a semi-professional football team based in Charleston.

Sams and Koski’s primary responsibilities will be to facilitate discussions with individuals, spouses or family members about how someone wants to be remembered. During the process, details for the service are planned, vaults or urns are selected, the variety of payment options are discussed, and more.
