Parkersburg Bedding Company to close; 82 jobs lost
PARKERSBURG – A local bedding company is shutting down.
Officials with Parkersburg Bedding Company, at 180 Airport Industrial Park, announced Friday that production has ceased and the Wood County plant would officially shut down on Nov. 12.
Plant Manager Darrell Lane said 82 positions were affected, including management.
Lane said the company lost its primary customer.
“Our biggest customer had stopped doing business with us,” he said. Lane said there were no other options available to the company to continue at this time.
The plant ceased all manufacturing last Friday.
The company, which was established in 1997, has built mattresses and bedsprings for American Signature and Value Stores to sell.
Workers have been told not to report to work unless notified specifically by the plant manager.
Employees are expected to stay on the payroll and benefits while the company negotiates with the workers’ union, Workers United Local 1526, on a close down strategy, Lane said.
All employment at the facility will officially end on Nov. 12, he said.
