Belpre Chamber plans oil, gas info event

BELPRE – The Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce will hold an informational meeting about the oil and natural gas boom in the area at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the chamber in front of the city building on Park Avenue.

“A lot of people have a lot of questions about how the Marcellus and Utica shale will impact the area,” chamber Executive Director Karen Waller said. “We want to give everyone the opportunity to come and ask questions.”

Jim Jarvis with the Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas Association will be the main speaker for the program. Jarvis will discuss the economic impact of the natural gas boom and the businesses that are or will see growth because of it, Waller said.

Pipelines, processing plants and other facilities tied in with the shale sources show billions of dollars worth of commitment and investments in the communities and state.

In part because of the shale development in Caldwell and around the valley, many businesses have experienced a spike in traffic, Waller said. These businesses include hotels and restaurants.

Terry Moore with the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport has said he believes some airplanes are using the local runway because of the shale drilling.

The Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas Association is a nonprofit organization of local producers and businesses involved in the oil and gas industry to address issues and concerns unique to the geographic needs of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
