David L. Chambers Sr. and Sharon L. Riggs Chambers will celebrate their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Riggs Farmhouse, 54 Riggs Run Road, Elizabeth, WV 26143.
They were married Nov. 11, 1967, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, W.Va., by the Rev. Robert E. Smith. David is the son of the late Brooks and Mary Chambers and Sharon is the daughter of the late Arlis and Elsie Riggs. David is retired from the glass industry where he had worked for Owens Illinois-Demuth, Brockway Glass, Corning Glass and later becoming Schott Scientific Glass. Sharon is retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she had served as a rural mail carrier in Elizabeth.
They raised their family on the Riggs Farm in Slate, W.Va., where they built two homes. Through guidance, encouragement and hard work they raised three successful and caring children, David L. Chambers Jr. of Slate, W.Va., Lora L. Grover (Doug) of Parkersburg and Matthew A. Chambers (Jonathan) of Huntington, W.Va. They have two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They remain very active in their retirement enjoying gardening, woodworking, yard sales and spending time with their pug, Daisy.
