Bill and Betty Pierson are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
The former Martha Elizabeth “Betty” Calhoon and William Johnson “Bill” Pierson were married at Westgate Friends Church in Columbus on June 20, 1964, by the late Rev. Earl Geil.
They are the parents of two children, John L. (Krista) of Parkersburg and Laura Elizabeth Pierson of Venice, Calif. They have two grandchildren, Jenna Marie and Matthew John Pierson of Parkersburg.
He started and remained owner of Hobart Sales and Service until his retirement in 2000. He has been active during his retirement on The Salvation Army Advisory Board, with Grace Baptist Church on various committees, Southern Baptist Relief work and is currently distribution of Scriptures’ hairman of The Gideons North Camp.
She taught in the Columbus school system for eight years before marriage and 16 years in Wood County Schools, retiring in 1994.
They have enjoyed traveling in their RV, the highlight of which was their two-and-a-half months’ trip through the west, and both ways on The Alaskan Highway including a month’s stay in Alaska.
Different celebrations are marking their year of jubilee, including a dinner in Ipls, Ind., with family including three members of their original wedding party.
