Jim and Kay Hill celebrated their 45th anniversary.
They were married July 12, 1968, in Greenup, Ky. by Judge/Elder Lewis McCubbin in his office, with Susan Ferrell of Chapmanville, W.Va., and the judge’s wife in attendance.
Both are graduates of Marshall University and he has a master’s degree in education from Marshall University Graduate College. Both taught in the Braxton County school system and in Wood County Schools.
He finished college earning a 2nd lieutenant rank with the U.S. Army. He worked more than 30 years with the West Virginia Army National Guard, achieving the rank of colonel and was commander of both the 1092 Engineer Battalion and the RTI at Camp Dawson in Kingwood, W.Va.
She has done volunteer work through the Wood County CEOS for more than 30 years, worked in the Mineral Wells Elementary School library and the New Era Living Heritage Museum. She was an early coordinator for local blood drives in the Mineral Wells area.
The couple was recently recognized for 20 years of service in the West Virginia Reap Adopt-a-Highway Program, and in 2012 were named Wood County Solid Waste Authority Citizens of the Year for efforts in collecting over 200 discarded tires from the roadsides and illegal dump areas during those years.
They are the parents of three children, Sonja Kay (Berry) Phillips of Hurricane, W.Va., Geoffrey Allen (Melinda) Hill of Silver Lake, Ohio, and Kyna Rave Joy Hill of Mineral Wells.
They are the grandparents of Keya and Lena Phillips, Nathan Hill and Lacey and Christian Xiong, both of whom live in San Diego, Calif.
