Lionel and Garnet Thomas of Sandyville will celebrate their 65th anniversary on March 31. They were married at the Big Tygart Church in Wood County in 1948.
He is the son of the late Yancy and Grace McPherson Thomas of Jackson County.
She is the daughter of the late Charley and Etta Thompson Boyce of Jackson County.
He is a World War II veteran who served with the 105th Station Hospital Unit in northern Africa and Italy. He is a retired school bus driver and farmer. He had also worked at American Viscose.
She is a retired elementary school teacher. She taught at the one-room schools of Sunshine, Beech Grove and McGraw in northern Jackson County before spending many years teaching at the Gilmore Elementary School at Sandyville.
They are members of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church and also attended the Drift Run United Methodist Church.
They are the parents of two children, Carolyn (Rex) Miihlbach of Ravenswood, and Neil (Susan) Thomas of Sandyville.
They have six grandchildren, Alex (Michala) Miihlbach, Kevin (Alisha) Miihlbach, Malinda (Stephen) Cooper, Mitch (Tomeka) Thomas, Steve (Amanda) Thomas and Anita (Derrick) Cooper.
They also have eight great-grandchildren and one deceased great-grandchild.
